Inauguration of Pre Departure Training of newly selected trade officers
Orientation course for trade officers designate started, at Pakistan Institute of Trade and Development, today dated 08 February 2016. The Secretary Commerce,Mr. Muhammad Shehzad Arbab inaugurated the event; he urged upon the officers that they should play their full role to help in achieving the exports target of the government. He , further, said, that selection was made purely on merit through highly transparent process that is written exam was conducted by renowned private sector institute (LUMS) and interview by a powerful high level selection board.
Secretary Commerce also stressed that the selected trade officers are going to be the face of Pakistan, through their actions, attitude and behaviour. Mr. Azher Ali Choudhry, Director General PITAD also congratulated the officers for being selected as trade diplomats of Pakistan and expressed his expectation that the respective officers will try their level best to achieve the mission of ministry of commerce.
Seminar on 'Capitalising the Benefits of GSP Plus'
A joint seminar on "Capitalising the Benefits of GSP Plus" was organized by the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) and Pakistan Institute of Trade & Development (PITAD) here at RCCI on Thursday (23 October 2014). President RCCI Mr. Asad Mashadi, Director General PITAD Ms. Anjum Assad Amin, Chief Executive Word Trade Advisory Dr Shakoor, Senior Vice President Mr. Mian Humayun Pervez, Vice President Mr. Saboor Malik and large number of businessmen attended the seminar.
Addressing the inaugural session President RCCI Mr. Asad Mashadi said that Rawalpindi Chamber always take initiatives for the betterment of business community and keep the businessmen informed about what is happening in the world. He said that basic purpose of today's seminar is to create awareness about GSP Plus and its requirements among traders and industrialists to get maximum results.
Speaking on the occasion DG PITAD Ms. Anjum Assad Amin has said that RCCI always cooperate with the government in any steps taken for the benefits of the businessmen community. She said that today's seminar main focus to unveil the conditions which are yet unknown for businessmen.
Later, Chief Executive World Trade Advisory Dr Shakoor while briefing the participants said that GSP Plus status given to those developing countries that had below 2 per cent trade with EU. He said that Pakistan is only focusing textile sector but there is a list of items which can be export to EU trade markets under some subsidies. He further said that it is completion for Pakistanis to meet the international standards while exporting their goods to EU.
7th Programme Steering Committee (PSC) meeting of TRTA Programme
The Programme Steering Committee (PSC) meeting of TRTA Programme was held at Serena Hotel Islamabad on 15th October 2014. Meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Muhammad Shahzad Arbab Secretary Commerce and Mr. Bernard Francois, head of Cooperation EU Delegation to Pakistan. Ms. Anjum Assad Amin, Director General Pakistan Institute of Trade and Development (PITAD) was the Secretary of the meeting. DG, PITAD is the focal point for TRTA and PITAD is responsible for monitoring of the programme in addition to being the secretary of the PSC meeting. After opening remarks from co-chairs and Secretary PSC meeting a progress report on implementation of the project was presented by the representatives of International Trade Centre(ITC for Component I) United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO for Component II) and World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO for Component III) respectively followed by discussion. All the representatives from the beneficiary organisations attended the meeting.
Mr. Muhammad Hasan Shafqaat, Deputy Director PITAD presented the programme monitoring report of three components of TRTA-II prepared by PITAD. It was highlighted during the meeting that the performance of the implementation agencies and overall direction of the programme was satisfactory.
DG, PITAD concluded the meeting with a vote of thanks and by sharing that performance of implementing agencies and overall progress of programme is satisfactory.
